PROJECT ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE HIRING COURT PERSONNEL; PROVIDING TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR COURT STAFF; IMPLEMENTING A TAILORED ASSESSMENT AND SCREENING TOOL; PURCHASING SOFTWARE AND EQUIPMENT; CREATING A RESOURCE GUIDE REGARDING SUBSTANCE USE DISORDERS AND MENTAL HEALTH; COMMUNITY AWARENESS; AND IMPLEMENTING A DATA TRACKING SYSTEM.

THE CHILDREN'S JUSTICE ACT (CJA) PARTNERSHIPS FOR INDIAN COMMUNITIES GRANT PROGRAM (VICTIMS OF CRIME ACT OF 1984, SECTION 1402(G), 34 U.S.C. 20101(G) SUPPORTS AMERICAN INDIAN AND ALASKA NATIVE COMMUNITIES FOR THE PURPOSE OF IMPROVING THE INVESTIGATION, PROSECUTION, AND HANDLING OF CHILD ABUSE CASES, ESPECIALLY CASES OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE, IN A MANNER THAT INCREASES SUPPORT FOR AND LESSENS TRAUMA TO CHILD ABUSE VICTIMS. THE FUNDING FURTHER SUPPORTS PROGRAMS TO PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE AND COORDINATED MULTIDISCIPLINARY RESPONSES TO CHILD ABUSE VICTIMS AND PROVIDE TRAUMA-INFORMED, CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE, HOLISTIC SERVICES TO CHILD ABUSE VICTIMS AND THEIR FAMILIES.KICKAPOO TRIBE IN KANSAS (KTIK) WILL IMPROVE PUBLIC SAFETY BY ADDRESSING GAPSFOR LAW ENFORCEMENT, COURT PERSONNEL, AND SOCIAL SERVICES RESPONDING TO CHILD ABUSE CASES. WITH THIS FUNDING, KTIK WILLUPDATE THE KTIK TRIBAL CODE TO ALLOW FOR MORE EFFECTIVE HANDLING OF CRIMINAL CASES INVOLVING CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT; UPDATE EXISTING POLICIES AND STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES; BUILD THE CAPACITY OF THE CRIMINAL SYSTEM TO RESPOND TO CHILD ABUSE USING A TRAUMA-INFORMED LENS AND TRAUMA-INFORMED PRACTICES; EXPAND TRIBAL VICTIM SERVICES (TVS) TO INCLUDE A COMPREHENSIVE ARRAY OF SERVICES FOR CHILD VICTIMS AND THEIR NON-OFFENDING FAMILY MEMBERS; ANDPROVIDE OUTREACH AND AWARENESS EVENTS TO THE KTIK COMMUNITY, BROWN COUNTY COMMUNITY, AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROFESSIONALS AT THE COUNTY, STATE, AND FEDERAL LEVELS.
