PROJECT ABSTRACT SUMMARYWALKER RIVER PAIUTE TRIBE GEOTHERMAL EXPLORATIONTHE WALKER RIVER PAIUTE TRIBE (WRPT) IS PROPOSING TO CONDUCT A RESERVATION-WIDE GEOTHERMAL ASSESSMENT TARGETING ELECTRICAL PRODUCTION AND DIRECT-USE. THE WALKER RIVER INDIAN RESERVATION (WRIR) IS IN A KNOWN GEOTHERMAL RESOURCE AREA AND SURROUNDED BY EIGHT GEOTHERMAL POWER PLANTS, HOWEVER, ONLY 1% OF THE WRIR HAS BEEN ASSESSED, CREATING A MASSIVE DATA VOID RELATIVE TO THE LEVEL OF GEOTHERMAL DATA SURROUNDING THE WRIR. PROJECT TASKS INCLUDE GEOPHYSICAL SURVEYS GEOCHEMICAL STUDIES GEOLOGIC MODELING STRESS ANALYSES, HYDROLOGIC MODELING, AND RESOURCE FAVORABILITY STUDIES. THE WRPT IS COLLABORATING WITH BLACKROCK GEOSCIENCE AND THE USGS TO CONDUCT THIS RESEARCH. THIS WORK WILL COMPILE EXISTING DATA WITH NEWLY ACQUIRED AIRBORNE GEOPHYSICAL SURVEYS AND NEW DATA COLLECTED FOR THIS PROJECT. THESE DATA WILL BE INTEGRATED INTO A COMPREHENSIVE SET OF GEOLOGIC, HYDROLOGIC MODELING, AND GEOPHYSICAL MODELS OF THE SUBSURFACE. THIS WORK WILL RESULT IN A COMPREHENSIVE GEOTHERMAL MODEL OF THE SUBSURFACE THAT WILL FACILITATE ENERGY PLANNING. THIS PHASE OF WORK IS PART OF A MULTI-PHASE PROCESS TOWARD GEOTHERMAL DEVELOPMENT AND IS THE EXPLORATION PHASE TO BE FOLLOWED BY TEST DRILLING, PRODUCTION DRILLING, PLANNING, ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION. LONG-TERM GOALS ARE TO DEVELOP ENERGY RESOURCES, CREATE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES AND JOBS, BECOME ENERGY INDEPENDENT, AND CREATE ENERGY SECURITY. OBJECTIVES TO MEET THESE GOALS INCLUDE BUILDING PARTNERSHIPS, ASSESSING ENERGY RESOURCES, AND SEEKING PROJECT FUNDING.
