THE QUAPAW NATION IS A FEDERALLY RECOGNIZED TRIBE LOCATED IN OTTAWA COUNTY, OKLAHOMA. THROUGH THIS NEW TRIBAL JURISDICTION AWARD, THE QUAPAW NATION TRIBAL COURT, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH TRIBAL LEADERSHIP, TRIBAL JUDGES, A TRIBAL PROSECUTOR AND LAW ENFORCEMENT WILL IMPLEMENT THIS PROJECT. GRANT FUNDS WILL BE USED TO SUPPORT: A PROGRAM COORDINATOR WHO WILL MANAGE THE PROJECT BY COORDINATING EFFORTS BETWEEN THE PROSECUTOR OFFICE, JAIL ADMINISTRATOR, PROJECT CONTRACTS AND SETTING UP TRAINING/ TRAVEL TO ENSURE THE CONTINUED EXERCISING OF SPECIAL TRIBAL CRIMINAL JURISDICTION (SCTJ). THE TRIBAL PROSECUTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PROSECUTIONS OF SCTJ CRIMES AND A VICTIM-WITNESS COORDINATOR, WILL ENSURE VICTIMS ARE AFFORDED THEIR RIGHTS AND SERVICES. FUNDS WILL ALSO SUPPORT LONG-TERM JAIL COST AND MEDICAL EXPENSES FOR THOSE INCARCERATED ON SCTJ CRIMES.
